We are proud to be the first African American Explorer Post in Texas Parks & Wildlife Organization. We love to helping minorities and other students ages 13-17 become exposed to sailing and explore career opportunities in maritime.
Sea Scout Base Galveston is an extraordinary classroom that provides hands-on opportunities for youth to learn and build character through challenging, rewarding, and hands-on experiences.
This program was created by Charles and Rosemary Doolin. Sea Scout Base Galveston offers programs for Sea Scouts, including kayaking, small and large boat sailing, and power boating. Marine and maritime education and internships for all ages are conducted aboard 110-foot, two-story floating classroom called the BaySmart Express.
Sea Scout Base Galveston focuses on maritime sciences and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
Galveston Community Youth Sailing Center.
This program offers a wide variety of sailing classes and programs for every age and ability level. Program are held on a diverse fleet of vessels, including 13-foot Sonars, match racing Pearson flyers, a historic style schooner and several large offshore vessels. Anyone can sign up.
It also offers memberships for individuals and families for US Sailing -sanctioned Community. GCYSC places special emphasis on teaching youth and disabled individuals the art of sailing.
Instructors are US Sailing-Certified licensed captains. Nautical skills are taught and practiced during weekly US Sailing Classes, Open Sail Saturdays and Schooner Sundays.
Peoples United Summit wants to expose all youth, especially minorities, to sailing. With our partnership, we want to educate and financially support any you that desires to learn about maritime program.
We participate in Mariners' Day at Sea Scout Base Galveston.
Exploration is the name of the game!
